The Launching Ceremony of Integrative Joint Organizational Platform and Survey of Attitudes toward Integration (IJOP) cum Chronic Disease Management with Integrative Medicine was held on Nov 22, 2015 at the Lecture Theatre of Hospital Authority Building. The activity was officiated by Dr. Ko Wing Man, BBS, JP, Secretary for Food and Health, Ms Annie Choi, JP, Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, Dr. Chan Hon Yee, JP and representatives of Medical Institutions and Universities with Dr. EdwinC.L.Yu, President of Hong Kong Association for Integration of Chinese-Western Medicine delivering the welcome speech.
IJOP is organized by Hong Kong Association for Integration of Chinese-Western (HKAIM) with funding from Innovation and Technology Commission. The program as a joint learning platform will try to enhance collaboration between western medicine and Chinese medicine (WM-CM) to facilitate understanding towards a gradual transformation to a new culture in practice. The goals of the program include the following:
To enhance dialogue between doctors and Chinese-medicine practitioners;
To facilitate Western Medicine and Chinese Medicine collaboration in primary care; and
To work up a conducive environment for collaboration in general.
The program is organised in two areas: Investigation and Education. Investigation consists of face-to-face in-depth interview with Idea-people as well as a general survey on doctors and Chinese medicine practitioners for opinion collection towards practicalities in collaboration. In addition, a disease-oriented study will be conducted to facilitate the establishment of a collaborative mode acceptable for doctors and Chinese medicine practitioners. For Education, conference, seminars, and discussion forums will be conducted for knowledge exchanges between western medicine doctors and Chinese medicine practitioners.
The launching ceremony was followed by the seminar on Chronic Disease Management with Integrative Medicine. We have invited Prof. Justin C.Y. Wu, Prof. Bian Zhao Xiang, and Mr. Wong Kit, CMP for sharing on the topic of integrative medicine for gastro-intestinal disease, chronic disease management, and legal gap between Chinese-western medicine respectively. Moreover, a panel presentation on "Loss of Body Capital, a management objective" by Dr. Lam Ping Ping, Dr. So Wing Yee, Dr. So Tsz Him/CMP, and Dr. Mo Fei Zhi, CMP was moderated by Miss Janet Wong, SBS, JP.
The organiser is grateful to have experts and leaders from the medical field to form the Advisory Committee and the Concern Group. We are also delighted for having a Task Force of young and talented doctors and Chinese medicine practitioners. Furthermore, It is important to have the assistance of directors from the three universities for the formation of Disease Collaborative Panel. Last but not least, the program would not be possible without the support from Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, Federation of Medicine Societies of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Registered Chinese Medicine Practitioners Association, and other renowned medical organisations.
The activity has been a milestone for WM-CM integration. We wish the program could start a series of collaboration between doctors and Chinese medicine practitioners. Participants were inspired by the activity. There is an anticipation that WM-CM integration would be beneficial to bring Hong Kong people a better life and health in the future.
